Rockshop Academy provided a crash course on playing with a band and what it took to navigate the music industry.
For 17 years Rockshop Academy was dedicated to fostering the next generation of aspiring Santa Barbara area musicians. Long live the legacy of what Rockshop Academy added to the Santa Barbara community. It held a year round after school program and weeklong summer camps that were led by professionals in the music industry — veterans of popular rock groups who have signed record deals and toured the globe!
Rockshop Academy was one of Santa Barbara's top programs for kids and beginners. Students learned to play all style of music songs (classic rock, country, punk, alternative etc.) that have been simplified for beginner musicians. Additionally, RA instructed helping students learn the concepts and skills behind their performance songs. RA also caters to the more advanced providing lessons with songs and parts that are tailored to them based on their age, experience and ability to learn new skills and concept.
About Rockshop Academy
Based in Santa Barbara, California, Rockshop Academy was started by Dishwalla / Penfiteen Club drummer and Mike's Drum Shop owner George Pendergast, and David Young, the band's former manager, who guided Dishwalla from garage band to gold records and the #1 Billboard Rock Song of the Year.
Pendergast and Young launched Rockshop Academy in 2009 to foster the next generation of aspiring musicians in the Santa Barbara area with the guidance of seasoned pros from the generation that put Santa Barbara on the music map.
George Pendergast is proud to now offer drum lessons and band coaching.
