Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of experience level does my child need to participate?

Rockshop Academy is open to all aspiring musicians between the ages of 10 and 17. We are looking for students who possess a basic command of the instrument, willingness to be a team player, and the ability to follow instructions in a group lesson environment.

If a candidate does not possess a basic command of his / her instrument for immediate enrollment into the next Rockshop Academy session, we will suggest individual lessons from one of our RA Pro Instructors and add their name to our waiting list for future sessions.

I already have some people I play with, can we join together?

Absolutely, RA will make every effort to pair you in your band with someone you know and have already played with in a band setting.

What about vocalists?

RA encourages vocalists as well! Singers are always in demand, and may end up singing for more than one band.

"Rockshop helped me come out of my shell, it helped me to just be myself more. I really enjoy coming here." — Alyssa D.

What is the Student to Pro ratio?

The Student to Staff ratio will never exceed 10-1; typically it will be less. Each band will revolve between its own practice room and larger rooms for group sessions. Each RA Instructor and Guest Advisor will split their time between bands or lead group sessions.

Alcohol & Drug policy

Rockshop Academy is a strictly alcohol and drug-free environment. Anyone violating this policy will be asked to leave immediately.

Do students need to bring equipment?

Drums, amps, a keyboard and PA system will be provided. Guitarists and bassists should bring their instrument, cables, picks, tuner and an amp if they wish. RA will have an equipment room for overnight storage during the session. Equipment rentals are also available.
